A normal sale is just a discount usually for a specified length of time and is intended only to increase sales of the sale items, which the store may or may not continue to sell new models might be coming in soon, or a new shipment might be coming, so it's necessary to sell more of these items to reduce stock on hand. You did check the dictionary first, didn't you? Why are the dictionary definitions insufficient to remove your confusion? Where do your doubts come from? All clearances are sales; not all sales are clearances.

Sale is used whenever anything is temporarily offered at a discounted price- I think it's overcomplicated to bring multiple branded stock items into it. Jim I would tend to agree. However, I'm trying to make a distinction between the words clearance and sale as used in the OP's two examples. In those two examples clearance clearly refers to a specific brand, hence my distinction using brands.
To say a sale is whenever anything is temporarily discounted does not help explain the difference between the two examples. Clearance does not need to be a specific brand. A store may clearance all of its furniture offerings if it has decided to get out of the furniture business. The distinction is that clearance is a sale for the purposes of getting rid of inventory whereas a plain sale could be for other purposes as well- for example to draw customers into the store. This might look appealing to a large pool of people, quality products at a discounted rate, but there is a catch to it.
Products sold at clearance sales are mostly non-refundable or non-returnable. Clearance sales have a pattern. Some stores have a reserved place in their shopping section specifically for clearance items. The longer a product is up for clearance, the lower the price conduces to go before the store chooses to pull it from the inventory.
Therefore even though the meaning of the terms Sales and Clearance seems to be identical, they are not and have a vast difference when compared.
Sales have a time limit within which the store is required to execute the sale where clearance does not have a fixed time. The latter continues till the time the target is reached or continues for the time which is required to get rid of the stock. Sales are actions associated with merchandising or the number of goods traded in a given targeted time period.
A clearance is a special type of sale that might attract more customers than traditional sales and get rid of certain stocks. They typically offer reduced prices on popular items and may include such promotions as Buy 1, Get 1 Free specials. Store-wide sales often occur around special occasions such as holidays, back to school shopping, etc. S ales last for a limited time only , before the retail price on the promotional items goes back up.
